I switched to non-toxic skincare and my results were amazing

Listen up!

So by now, I am sure that you’ve probably been hearing about how a lot of the food that we eat is often full of harsh chemicals and toxins. I know a lot of people who are extremely health conscious about the food that they put into their bodies, but what is often overlooked is the stuff we put on our skin every day–and that stuff gets absorbed into our bloodstream in about six seconds! Weird ingredients that you would never expect, such as heavy metals and extracts from beetles (yes, bugs!) are just a couple of nasty, wtf ingredients that are allowed to be put into our skincare and cosmetics. So my question is why the hell does the US not ban this stuff in the first place? The EU has banned about 1,300 chemicals so far with skincare. And the US–just about 11! After becoming incredibly aware AND PARANOID about what I was putting on my face, I decided to kick regular skincare and cosmetics to the curb, and the results have been amazing.

So since I’ve started switching out my skincare and beauty products to non-toxic and natural products, virtually all of my eczema and allergies issues have gone away. For the past three years, I would often have itchy and irritated eyes to the point that it was hard to focus in class, drive, or even lie in bed without feeling like I was going to go insane. My eyes would often swell up, which would look SO cute for classes and going out with friends. And not to mention my eczema flareups were at an all-time high in college as well. And it was the worst on my face–of course! And I know, its just skin and it can heal, but you’d be surprised by how much it can affect your life. Aside from the look of my inflamed skin, I was honestly so uncomfortable, and I’m distracted as it is! So being itchy made my concentration 1000 times worse. Going to dances or out at night was a struggle because I could either wear makeup, and look really flaky from the uneven application of my foundation, or look like a red tomato! Lol.

So I was pretty much ready to try anything. And I already went the steroid route. It doesn’t cure the issue, so once I stopped, it came right back. And these medications are downright just not good for you. So I decided I was going to switch out my skincare. Throw away the Aveeno, yes even that has carcinogens in it, stop wearing makeup until I could replace it with more natural products, and find a skincare line that would actually calm and soothe my skin! In the midst of all of this, one of my blogging buddies, Becca, reached out to me about Arbonne. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about their dedication to being Vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic, GF, and sustainable. And when I read their ingredients, my jaw just dropped. I tried their Calm Collection line, because it is made specifically for easily irritated skin. And guys, I swear within two days, the eczema that I have been struggling with around my eyes was gone in two days. That was in October…IT IS JULY…Almost August, and I have yet to have a severe flareup on my face. I have had flareups on my face for two years before switching to non-toxic skincare. So what I am trying to say here, is that I am honestly scared to even think about what I was putting on my face and body this whole time, after learning about all of the chemicals that are allowed in even the brands that we consider more natural in our stores. and I think my face is proof that there is a difference in natural skincare and something you buy at Walmart 😂

My go-to products

Face. So before going completely natural, I used decent skincare on my face, but nothing seemed to make my eczema go away on my face. I think this was from the combination of potential chemicals in my moistuizers but also the makeup I was using. I switched to Arbonne’s Calm Collection for my face, and within three days my eczema cleared up on my face.

key ingredients:

  • Aloe vera: soothes and moisturizes
  • Cucumber: helps soothe skin•
  • Licorice: softens and soothes skin•
  • Mallow: rich in vitamins, softens and soothes•
  • Chamomile: contains antioxidant properties•
  • Sea mayweed: calms skin•
  • Japanese green tea: helps soothe skin

body. I love love love anything with coconut because 1. it smells delicious and 2. the nutrients that our skin can absorb from this plant is incredible!! So, when I saw that Arbonne came out with coconut body lotion and body butter in their most recent Botaniques line, you already know it went straight to my cart. Guys, this stuff is amazing, smells good, and is boosted with Vitamin E which keeps your skin silky smooth. It smells better than Bath and Body Works fragranced products and has none of the bad stuff!

makeup. The amount of disturbing, pardon my language, shit that is thrown into our makeup is absolutely terrifying. It’s no wonder why so many girls have issues with breakouts! From animal byproducts, heavy metals and lead, to chemicals that should never be allowed to touch your skin, can all be found in most makeup! Whether its from a drug store or you are paying $ for “quality” beauty products, chances are, its bad for you and will clog your pores and also will get absorbed right into your bloodstream. I use mostly Arbonne’s products now for makeup as well. I’ve replaced my mascara, eyeshadow pallets, brow pencil, eyeliner, and CC Cream!
