My Favorite Items to bring backpacking

September 19, 2023shelbssays@gmail.com

Recently, I’ve upgraded some of my backpacking gear. This list is going to be some of my tried and true products that I’ve been using for a long time + some of my new favorite pieces of gear to take backpacking. If you are starting to get into backpacking, I hope this list can be kept as reference for the future! And if you are an experienced backpacking, it’s always nice to see what others pack! PS, this isn’t a full guide, just some of my favorite pieces of gear. 🌼

Here are some of my favorite items to take backpacking 🐻🌼🌲🌞

  1. GOOD SLEEPING PAD: I recently invested in a lighterweight sleeping pad which is a game-changer. I use the NEMO Tensor Ultralight Sleeping Pad and it is extremely comfortable! But caution: this is an *ultralight* item. They require a little extra care. Since they are so thin, don’t go jumping on the pad, because they can pop easier. And make sure there aren’t any sharp rocks when laying on the pad.
  2. CAMPING PILLOW: I also recently invested in a pillow. I don’t typically take pillows on backpacking trips because its ~luxurious~ but now I have no regrets on this. I bought the NEMO Fillo Pillow and it is the softest most cozy thing ever. I will always take this now. And, it packs up SO small!
  3. WATER FILTER: I’d say a water filter is a need when going backpacking. There are lots of different kinds out there, but I SWEAR by Katadyn BeFree Filter. The water flow is excellent and the collapsable bottle is epic.
  4. JET BOIL: I bring a JetBoil on almost any backpacking trip. This is considered a luxury item…And you can get away with a stove and pot, but this takes up less space, and makes cooking your dehydrated meals a breeze!
  5. DEHYDRATED FOOD: You don’t have to buy dehydrated meals. In fact, you can make it yourself, or opt for other food such as ramen/mac n cheese. I often will still by dehydrated food out of convenience and also lots of them are high calorie and nutrient DENSE–something you need when you are hiking high milage. My absolute favorites are this Pad Thai dinner and the Peanutbutter Banana OatMeal 😋
  6. COFFEE: If I’m camping, I am making camp coffee. It just tastes better in the outdoors. Nothing beats a nice cup of coffee from your tent site. I love the Kuju Pour overs. They are easy to brew and taste delicious ☕️🤭

That’s all for now! Just wanted to share some of my fav items that make backpacking more fun for me! Chat with you soon. xx
