How to succeed in college 101: Using a planner

Have no fear! The planner is here!

College is a time for overwhelming schedules. There is so much to do and trust me, you are going to be overwhelmed. From clubs to sports, to class, to homework, to friends and finding time for yourself… It is hard! Without organizing your schedule, it will eventually feel like you are being consumed with stress and you won’t be able to find time to enjoy yourself. But worry not!

Thanks to my planner, my life became a whole lot more organized transitioning into school- unlike what is likely to happen without one. I had to find the perfect balance my freshman year: between starting a club, being in clubs, being on a sport and a desire to adventure, there seemed like there would be no time for it all! And that is where your planner comes in.

My favorite planner:

The Happy Planner is what I currently use. They are fun, customizable, and affordable! You can find The Happy Planner either online or at Michaels!

Planning out the day can seem like another task to put on the list. The Happy Planner makes planning (addictingly) fun! There are tons fun additions for your planner- cute bookmarks, sticky notes, stickers, folders and even a fitness log!

Where to begin:

Include your class/work schedule

Keeping your schedule somewhere handy makes everything a little bit easier! My planner has pages that can be taken out and removed so each week I switch my schedule to the current week’s pages.

 Do color code

My planner has three sections to write in for each day of the week. I color code and divide these into “fun”, “tasks”, and “homework”.

Call it extreme to plan fun, but with so much to do each day in school, it is important to keep some time for yourself and things you love to do. It is also exciting to see what you can look forward to doing after a long day of work. ?

Keep an outline

Keep an outline of meetings, big days, appointments, and exams on your monthly calendar page.  Keep smaller details, assignments, and tasks on your daily sections to keep your outline more clutter free!

Here are the basics to getting your planner started! Have fun and happy planning!
