7 tips to stay balanced during college craziness

They say you can only have two out of these three things during school: good grades, a good social life, and a good night’s rest. Now, throw in a job, internship, hobby, and/or a sport in there, and things can get a little messy! While it may not be possible to do everything you want in a day, there are some strategies to help you get there (or close to it)! Like many students, I often feel like my life is being consumed with homework and can not find a balance between my hard work and time to relax with friends. College is a tricky time to balance out everything you want to do. So, here are my five tips to help balance college life when you feel like you can’t:

make a great weekly schedule. Lay it all out. Color coordinate. Just get every obligation you have weekly on a piece of paper. This can include classes, club meetings, sports, work, etc. Having your weekly schedule laid out where you can see it every day will help solidify your schedule into your mind. The more time you know you have free=the better you can manage your time for other stuff 🙂

designate free time. Don’t just designate your schedule for obligations! Make sure to include some time that you will enjoy whether it is a club meeting, grabbing coffee with a friend, or something else. Seeing fun stuff on your schedule can also make it seem a lot less overwhelming when you are going over your day.

stay on top of basic health routines. Drink your water. Take your vitamins. Focus on mindfulness. The better you feel, the more you will be able to take on with energy! This is something that can be really difficult to keep up with if you get stretched too thin!

become a morning person. Getting in the habit of waking up earlier will allow you the time to get your work done earlier! I have been focusing a lot on productivity in the morning so I can have a less stressful evening and more time for fun activities 🙂

get a work study. I LOVE my work study. This is a good option for any student that needs a job.  I know I can always knock out two hours of my homework each time I work, which gives me more time in my day to enjoy other things!

know your besties’ schedules as well as your own. It is so so important to know your friend’s schedule as well as yours so you can plan time to be with them. Whether it is just grabbing a quick meal or a girls night out, knowing their schedule as well will make it way easier to plan some time to have fun together.

Be honest about your schedule. Seriously, do not bite off more than you can chew. College is such an exciting time and it is tempting to want to sign up for every club that interests you. But once classes get rolling, it will be hard to do everything you like and it will all come down to the things that are most important for you.

Cheers,
