Five items worth investing in for your new dorm room

August 29, 2018shelbssays@gmail.com

And just like that we’re back to dorm life (or just getting started with dorm life for the freshmen reading my post). It is crazy to think that many students are already moved in since my school doesn’t start for over another week, which is why I always seem to be late on these kinds of posts, BUT there are still some things that I really think everyone should invest in for their dorm. So, let’s get started!

  1. Waterfall hangers: dorm rooms are typically tight and shared spaces… These literally save more than half the space of normal hangers, so they are worth the price! The ones that I use are from Bed Bath and Beyond. You have to remember that enough though they are a little pricey, they hold six articles of clothing, so… Worth it!!
  2.  A nice shower caddy: after 3 years of dealing with disgusting shower caddies, I am buying a metal shower caddy like this one! It has tons of space since there are different levels, and spaces for everything to drain and dry easily unlike a classic plastic shower caddy. After months of having shaving cream, shampoo/conditioner, and soap, the plastic gets SUPER grimy. And the classic college shower caddy does not allow you to hang it anywhere, and shared shower floors are not the cleanest floors, so it is worth the splurge.
  3.  A nice mattress topper: This is now you room. Your bed. Your little space to escape from the fun and hecticness of college. Trust me, your bed is sacred. And good sleep is essential. Do yourself a favor, and invest in a GOOD mattress topper because dorm room mattresses are not very plush and don’t give much back support. + if you get a good one, it’ll last you longer throughout college so it is worth it in the end. I layered mine with a memory foam mattress topper and then a fluffy down/cotton pad on top of that and now it might beat my bed at home!
  4.  Bedding: Going off of number 3, splurge on the bedding that you think is super cute because you are going to be using and seeing it everyday! Bedding really helps complete your dorm look, so I highly recommend splurging on your fav 🙂 This is also something that you can use for all four years, so it is worth investing in one that you absolutely love!
  5.  A humidifier: Dorm rooms can get pretty dry. I suffer from dry  skin so it is extra important for me to stay on top of this. Once the cooler months roll around, do your skin and breathing a favor and get a humidifier. Keep in mind with the type that you buy, it is hard to clean things in a dorm, so look for ones that are easy to clean, like some of these listed here! If you are an essential oil fan, find one that can allow you to do that.
