My winter skin care routine

Get your skin under control.

There are still six more weeks of winter, and if you are somewhere in New England like I am, it is probably going to remain wintery for much longer than that– which is totally okay in my book… just maybe not my skin’s book. Whether you are an avid winter adventurer or just penguin walking your way to class in snowy conditions, mother nature is going to take a toll on your skin. And if you are like me, you’ve tried everything in the book to get it under control. Don’t let winter ruin your fun outdoors! Here are a few tips and products to try from someone who plays in the snow way too much.

My favourite mask.

Coming from someone that suffers from eczema, I can not use many products without getting extremely irritated. I discovered Lush this winter, and the Oatifix facemask has really helped soothe my dry skin. Plus, it smells amazingg!

My cleanser.

I typically use a cleanser every couple of days. Again, this product is super natural and gentle on my skin. It helps exfoliate the dead skin off well, leaving you feeling fresh! It will dry you out if you don’t moisturize after!

my favourite lip care

Okay, so I am a huge Lush fan. And no this isn’t sponsored. I just can’t get enough! This lip product smells soo good– like fresh tangerines! And it saves my lips from the harsh temps.

For a dry skin crisis.

Honestly, my skin gets so so dry, and no matter how much moisturizer I apply, my skin gets dry again within an hour of application. I swear Vaseline is a miracle. It is gentle and flakes stand no chance against it. Use it sparingly, because it will make your skin look oily. So, the best time to apply is after you wash your face and are ready for bed. Again, you don’t want to use this too much, especially if you are prone to breakouts. But, it is perfect for spots that won’t stay hydrated. It is also great for around your eyes.

Even Tyra Banks approves. If you haven’t seen this, you definitely want to…

My everyday moisturizer.

I use CeraVe as my daily moisturizer.  I typically use the PM one though during the winter in morning and night as it feels a lot more moisturizing than the AM one!

a few extra tips.

  • use a humidifier in your room. Winter months tend to make the air a little dry indoors
  • always keep a water bottle with you everywhere you go. Staying hydrated is key
  • eating healthy and taking vitamins does make a difference for your skin, so care for yourself!
  • cover up your face as much as you can when you are outside. Bundle bundle bundle!

Cheers! And enjoy the last six weeks (or more) of winter!
